What is the statute of limitations on embezzlement charges in Texas?

Under Texas law, a charge of embezzlement must be filed within two years from the date of the alleged taking. However, if the value puts the offense into a felony category, the government must bring the charge within five years from the date of the alleged offense. If the person embezzled from a bank or other financial institution, the statute of limitations is seven years. It could be extended to 10 years under certain circumstances, such as when the defendant is a public servant accused of taking public funds.
